Our seasonal summer camp staff is made up of nature lovers, outdoor educators and adventure seekers, specializing in FUN. Many are former campers who just can't get enough of those magical Gallagher summers.
Summer staff includes lodge leaders, lifeguards, cooks, a registered nurse and a camp director.
Camp gallagher leadership
Megan McArthur Wellings has spent her career in youth development and leadership in a variety of ways. Most recently, she was the Executive Director for Providence Hospitality House, a homeless shelter that served women with young children. In her position, Megan learned how to work with and support a governing Board, finances, fund development, and the importance of support to families in crisis.
Megan has a vast amount of experience in the summer camp industry, including serving as Director of Environmental Education at Camp Killoqua, Camp Fire USA. It was through this role that she learned to create, market, manage, and evaluate programs that serve youth.
Megan is wife to Dave and mother to Margaret Rose. Her free time is spent sailing, reading, and experiencing life through the eyes of her daughter.
Board of directors
Patrick has spent his career bringing educational opportunities and critical youth developmental support to children, particularly those from underserved populations. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Washington STEM, helping advance equity, excellence, and innovation in science, technology, engineering and math education.
Patrick brings past experience from Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Alliance for Education, as well as twenty years in the camping and environmental education field.
Patrick lives in Seattle with his husband and two children.
Tracy has been involved in the education field for 23 years. She currently teaches 8th grade at St. Luke’s in Shoreline and is a part of the administration team.
Tracy brings 20+ years of camping and environmental education experience to the board. She's passionate about serving the under-represented and has served on the board of Providence House and Sojourner House, both of which support homeless women and children.
Marypat Thenell Smucker, CFA, is an independent contractor in investment communications and analysis. With over 20 years' experience in asset management, she's highly skilled in complex economic, financial and capital markets.
Her past positions include Assistant Vice-President and Managing Editor at T. Rowe Price Investment Services; Manager, Transaction Services, at KPMG LLP; and Analyst at Emerging Markets Partnership. Prior to her career in finance, she worked as a tour director in China.
Marypat lives in Seattle with her husband and two sons.
Alison is a middle school teacher at Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bellevue, where she teaches eighth grade English and Fine Arts, and coordinates the Student Leadership Council.
She brings 15+ years of camping and environmental education experience, along with a passion for place-based education and working with youth of all backgrounds.
Tom teaches junior high History and English in Port Orchard. He's been a teacher for 25 years, during which he's served as a department chair, yearbook advisor, and coach of baseball and basketball. He's also served as a high school welding teacher and volunteer leader in the Peace Corps in Morocco, 1980-1982.
Having worked at summer camps for 19 summers, 13 as a camp director, Tom brings extensive experience to the Friends of Camp Gallagher board. He's passionate about empowering young people to be leaders and serve their community.
In addition to teaching, he works on-call at a shelter for homeless men and women in Tacoma.
Eric manages a range of business interests including construction and property management and real estate investments. He also has experience in website development and was an early team member supporting the development of MSN, kids group.
Eric has a long history of working with youth camping programs. He was a camp kid himself and attending 25 sessions of camp over six summers (likely a camp record)! Eric went on to work in camping and environmental education programs for nine years.
Mike has practiced health law in Washington state since 2000. Currently, Mike serves as Associate General Counsel and one of four lawyers serving the following UW Medicine (and affiliated) private, non-profit entities: UW Physicians, UW Neighborhood Clinics, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, and Children’s University Medical Group.
Mike has been involved with summer camps as a camper, staff member, and board member dating back to the early 1980s. Mike’s interests these days include introducing his three young children to exploring the outdoors, playing soccer, and music.
Patty is the Learning Support Specialist at Villa Academy, a private independent school in Seattle. She writes and manages learning plans for children and supports teachers primarily in the language arts area. After spending two years living in the south of France, Patty taught around the country in Florida, Chicago, New York City and Denver, before settling back in the northwest.
Patty has 30 years of experience teaching children and working in summer camps. This has taught her the importance of developing independent and confident life-long learners.
Creighton is Vice President of Government Affairs and Business Development at CNSI a national leader in large scale mission-critical IT implementations with deep domain expertise across prominent industries, including Health, Defense and National Security, Homeland Security and Transportation. Prior to CNSI, Creighton was an aide to United States Senator Maria Cantwell.
Creighton developed his love of camping growing up in the Northwest and attending summer camp. He also worked three summers as a camp counselor. He and his wife Shelly have three children and live in Seattle, WA.
Originally hailing from Southern California, Joe is a trained llithographer with an extensive career in the printing industry. He currently sells fine printing paper, wide-format media, custom packaging and facilities supplies for Veritiv Corporation.
Beyond his day job, Joe has lots of experience working with kids as a youth sports coach, having coached his son's soccer, baseball, flag football and most recently AAU basketball team.
Joe lives in Kent with his wife Susan, son Ross and dogs Payette and Pal. He and his family enjoy many outdoor activities including skiing, hiking, cycling, scuba diving, swimming and sailing.
An expert in camp property management, Jon successfully led property planning, development, and maintenance for multiple local youth programs for more than 25 years, including the Girls Scouts of Washington.
Jon currently owns a full-service landscape and build/design contracting company. He has 30+ years’ experience with both design and construction for residential and commercial projects
He has a bachelor of arts in forest management from the University of Washington.
Bryan is the founder of Sahsen Ventures, which invests in and supports mission-driven enterprises focused on life sciences, education, social justice and the environment.
From 1994 to 2016, he was Co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Quadra/Quellos and subsequently BlackRock Alternative Advisors.
Bryan also serves on the Boards of Pomona College and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He's a member of the University of Washington Investment Company and The Council on Chicago Booth. He earned a BA in Mathematical Economics from Pomona College in 1984 and an MBA degree, with honors, from the University of Chicago in 1989.
